The player base here is just too rude to allow new players to enjoy this game. I have spent many hours reading the forums. I see posts on Hulkageddon stating that miners are being ganked because its frowned upon and not considered "playing the game". I enjoy mining because I can sit my 2 year old daughter on my lap and actually begin to teach her how to play computer games. Kinda hard when I am constantly losing mining ships to players that have stacked PVP ships. I don't see how a defenseless ship can offer a challenge to a ship fitted for PVP. Honestly its an act of bullying. So then I figure... OK.. Since mining isn't "playing the game" I will try missions. Apparently running missions isn't "playing the game" either and there are players purposely ganking mission runners too. So my question is... How is a new player supposed to "play this game"? Should I sit in my station and spend 2 minutes setting my training que and then log off for a few days? Or should I hop in my Ibis and fly to null sec for PVP?
I have been online gaming for over 10 years and have seen games with great player bases, and have witnessed some games with terribad player bases as well. I really want to believe that EVE has one of the most intelligent and one of the best player bases in the industry. This is my first post and an attempt to prove to myself whether this community is worth joining or not.
I am not trying to QQ or complain and I hope for once someone can offer a new player some friendly advice instead of trolling the #*&% out of this thread. I came to this game because I thought the player base would be better than that of games like WoW or CoD. This game looks like it requires a slightly higher IQ and therefore I assumed the player base would be a little more civilized. Experienced players using multiple accounts to gang up on defenseless new players is not my idea of civilized. I understand that every MMO is going to have gankers but it feels like that is the complete mindset of this game. Am I right in that assumption? Am I doing something wrong? How should a new player supposed to approach this game since we can't mine or run missions?
I can relate, while I don't have kids (yet), I share your experience. I have also been playing MMOs for almost 10 years prior to Eve. All I can say is that Eve was the hardest one to learn and to adapt to it's environment, and it's also by a huge margin compared to other MMOs.
What I did was, I learn to cope with the world of Eve, the sole fact that the game was (it still is) hard have never discouraged me to stop playing, it's the other way around actually. Out of all MMOs I've played so far, Eve has given me the most sense of accomplishment from small things, be it just learning how to use dscan properly, or just plain how to warp to a gate properly in a hostile environment. While the learning progression is hard, the rewards are also on a whole other level.
Judging from what you're looking for, my suggestion is to try joining a starter corps to guide you through the game, like Eve University for example. If you prefer to go straight to shooting other people, you can try Red vs Blue. If you want to go straight deep into the world of Eve, as in the whole package, you can try researching how to join TEST without getting scammed in the process. Fly safe and enjoy the game. Don't like spaceships sandbox? then this is not the game for you.
